About Us

Exercise is Medicine Malaysia® (EIM), is part of a global health initiative managed by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). 

The Exercise is Medicine Malaysia is governed by an Exercise is Medicine Advisory Board that is composed of thoughtful and leading clinicians in the area of physical activity and non-communicable diseases, who work with an executive team (in a form of National Society) that is responsible for the operations of the Exercise is Medicine® Malaysia Initiative. Members of this Advisory Board consist of leading healthcare and fitness professionals from both public and private sectors.

Our Mission

Why we exist?

  • For Physical Activity to become a Vital Sign (PAVS), with health care providers routinely discussing it with each of their patients.
  • For the physician to either prescribe appropriate Physical Activity (PA) to each patient or to refer the patient to a certified physical and or fitness professional.
  • To put in place a framework for allied health and fitness professionals to work with physicians in implementing the exercise plan.
  • For the public to begin to ask for and expect physicians to discuss Physical Activity (PA) during each office visit.
  • To promote physical activity as an integral part in the prevention and treatment of many medical conditions.

Call to Action

Exercise is Medicine® Malaysia is encouraging healthcare providers to make exercise assessment and physical activity a part of interaction with every patient on each visit, when appropriate.

Resources and tools, such as educational materials and an action guide, will be provided to guide healthcare, allied and fitness professionals on how to prescribe physical activity in the ‘right dosage’ to prevent, treat and manage more than 20 common chronic health conditions for patients.

Exercise is Medicine® Malaysia have already rolled out workshops for healthcare and fitness professionals to train them on the principles and recommended protocols. EIMM aims to train at least 1000 primary care physicians and fitness professionals in Malaysia by 2025.

Exercise is Medicine® Malaysia aims to establish Physical Activity as a Vital Sign, with health care providers routinely discussing it with each of their patients. In Addition, the physician to either prescribe appropriate physical activity to each patient or to refer the patient to a certified healthcare provider and fitness professional for exercise prescription or exercise supervision. Furthermore, we aim to put in place a framework for allied health and fitness professionals to work with physicians in implementing the exercise plan.

As for the public, to begin to ask for and expect physicians to discuss physical activity during each office visit.
